How to Partially Close a Position
Updated 1 week Ago
A partial close refers to closing a portion of an open position, rather than the entire trade. This feature helps traders lock in profits, reduce risk exposure, and enhance capital management flexibility.
Procedure
Step 1: Open the Trading Platform
Launch MetaTrader 4 (MT4) or MetaTrader 5 (MT5), then navigate to the “Trade” tab at the bottom and locate the position you wish to modify.
Step 2: Open the Order Window
Double-click the selected position to open the “Order” window.
Step 3: Set the Closing Volume
In the order window, adjust the “Volume” field to a value smaller than the current position size, representing the portion you want to close.
Step 4: Execute the Partial Close

Click the yellow button at the bottom:
“Close … by Market” to complete the partial close.
Important Notes
- The remaining position will continue to fluctuate with market conditions.
- Ensure sufficient margin is maintained to avoid margin calls or stop-outs.
