How to Close a Position

Closing a position refers to exiting an open trade. This action helps traders lock in profits, manage risk, optimize capital usage, and ensure proper execution of trading strategies.
Steps
Step 1: Choose a Closing Method
After logging into MetaTrader 4 (MT4) or MetaTrader 5 (MT5), navigate to the “Trade” tab at the bottom and locate the position you wish to close.
You can close a position using one of the following methods:
Method 1: Close via Menu

- Right-click on the selected position
- Click “Close Order” from the menu
- The order window will open
Method 2: One-Click Close
- Locate the position in the order list
- Click the “×” icon on the far right to close the position instantly
Step 2: Confirm and Execute the Close
In the “Order” window:

- Confirm the closing volume (default is the full position size)
- Click the yellow button at the bottom:
“Close … at Market” to execute the trade
Important Notes
- Positions are closed at the current market price, which may fluctuate.
- Exercise caution when closing positions during major news events or volatile market conditions.
